ASP EMS Is Committed to Health, Safety and the Environment.
Our business is safety and we take it very seriously. Our clients realize this too and we are constantly striving to increase awareness throughout the industry and especially within our own company.
We have maintained our
Certificate of Recognition since 2004 and are constantly evolving our HSE program to always be anticipating new regulations. Senior company management along with development help from Alberta Occupational Health and Safety and Work Safe BC have eventually created the 4 tiered program that exists today. These 4 publications are the Safety Management Culture Program, the Safe Work Handbook, ASP Medical Control Guidelines and the Quality Assurance Manual. These manuals are updated every 2 years and every ASP workplace, vehicle and employee is supplied with copies of them.
In 2008, ASP EMS joined
ISNetworld. This international organization collects and verifies safety, procurement, quality and regulatory information from approximately 30,000 contractors and suppliers. They provide an online contractor management database and collects health, safety, procurement, quality and regulatory information designed to meet governmental record keeping and Owner Client requirements. Through its Review and Verification Services (RAVS), ISN's subject matter experts review and verify contractors' self-reported information. ASP EMS also uses ISNetworld to manage internal training and record keeping requirements. Senior company management spent a concerted amount of time answering contractors’ questions so that we have top approval ratings from large organizations such as Devon Canada, Penn West, Enerplus, Encana, etc.
Since 2004, ASP has been a member of
Complyworks, previously known as HSE Canada. This organization provides contractor management and supplier management solutions for global industries that need greater overall risk mitigation, better compliance with local, national and international safety, environmental, financial and other regulations and streamlined contractor and supplier prequalification and selection. Senior company management spent a concerted amount of time answering contractors’ questions so that we have top approval ratings from large organizations such as Devon Canada, Penn West, Enerplus, Encana, etc.
Safe Workplaces
ASP EMS has determined that the key to improving safety performance is focusing on enhancing personal safety awareness and behavior through training and mentoring. We understand that it is the company’s responsibility to provide the tools with which develop and maintain safe working environments and actions. We maintain an evolving Critical Task List, Job Hazard Assessment Program and current MSDS procedures. Our company develops programs that emphasize personal responsibility for working safely, while encouraging the reporting of both actual incidents and near misses. Although a near miss is an event without immediate consequences, we recognize that it could have resulted in personal injury, property damage, fire, process upset, spill, release or other failures. If a potential risk is identified through either a near miss or other hazard analysis, we believe it is not enough to only report the problem. We correct the issue and identify the root causes in order to eliminate recurrence. We encourage employees to watch out for each other and company property, the public and other companies’ personnel and equipment.
Managers and supervisors are encouraged to lead by example and reinforce safety messages. The responsibilities of company hierarchy are laid out at the beginning of our Safety Management Culture Program and are readily available in every company vehicle and each company worksite.
Enform Safety Stand Down
Every year in January, senior company management visit some of our existing sites to speak directly with our frontline staff about safety. According to Enform, studies conducted have shown that most recordable incidents and injuries occur within this frontline group and that safety messages to this group often become diluted. However, when senior company staff meet employees to discuss these issues in person, these frontline team members are more likely to listen and to provide feedback.
Hazard ID Tools
Every company vehicle and workplace is supplies with Hazard ID Booklets to help identify and correct safety issues and concerns. Completed Hazard IDs are required for each and every company worksite and our employees are trained on their use and their importance.
Driving
ASP EMS has known for a long time that the most dangerous part of virtually every day is driving our vehicles. We have procedures and specialized training in place to try and avoid as many problems as possible such as our Journey Management System, fatigue management, operating in icy conditions, hands-free equipped vehicles, strict Distracted Driving Policy, etc.
